Many of the posts are talking about what sort of things you will need to get good gameplay out of FS X. I am looking into buying a new ATI Radeon 258mb card. I think that should handle it sufficiently. If you plan on buying FS X, do you think your current system will hold up to the major graphics involved? Will you be buying anything new?

Hi scube, I think a 64 bit system will be required to realise the full eye-candy potential of FsX so I'd delay any new system until the full facts of 64 bit technology are known and understood. I keep checking the tech forums of Netwings and the SOH to get opinions.
Cheers

You are talking about 64 bit graphics card, correct? I don't grasp the whole graphics world stuff very well so, if you would, please tell me if you get any further information from the tech forums. I am also confused about the difference of a video and graphics card. Would it help to get a better graphics card, or a better video card? Sounds like I would need a new graphics card. Thanks Roger,

64 bit starts at the processor and will include the motherboard, memory and graphics/sound etc. Microsoft are developing software called Vista for the operating system of a 64 bit pc. It confuses the heck out of me too so I'm relying in the clever folks to educate me, lol.

Yah, very confusing. Looks to me like I will be spending about $500 to get my computer ready for FS X. My computers specifications are:
Gateway 5200S
Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ 512 MB of RAM ATI Radeon X300
I could list some more, but I am not sure about the rest. Is windows vista going to be another brand of windows? I suppose I will have to go and buy that retarded thing too. Heres my shopping list:
ATI Radeon 9250 ($150) 1 more 512MB ram piece ($90) Windows Vista ($100-200 ?)

I would say FOR NOW, forget vista, and get a better video card. If you have a PCI express shot, get an X700Pro, which you can get around $100-$150. If you see my specs in my sig, and some of my screenshots, you can see the wonders of a good graphics card.

Oooh I see. Ok I will shoot for the X700 pro. Thanks for the suggestions!

H! there. I have one small problem. The scenery seems to blend in and actually take over the a/craft profile sometimes, but by panning the a/craft around it disappears. Any thoughts please. If i replace one of the Classic a/c with a standard a/c it does not happen. Other than that i am completely hooked and will be adding another FS2004

And this is the FSX forum. You would probably get more response if you started a new thread down in the Golden Wings Support Forum Here: mainescenery.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=gold

If your motherboard supports 64 bit, your cpu should already be able to support it, however, keep in mind that Vista has been delayed and will not release until some time after FSX. Shawn Firminger has announced that FSX is a 32 bit application with the ability to take advantage of 64 bit. Keep in mind that though upgrading is nice (and I recently did it myself), FSX is still 1/2 a year down the line and no one can say for sure what will be needed to run it well at this time. Personally, I am guessing that any Pentium 4 3.0ghz (or it's AMD equivalent) or greater with at least 1 gig of ram and decent graphic card and sound card will with Win XP will run it. But remember, this is just a guess based on what I have read.

I think that's around the lines of what the requirements will be, for the 64 bit at least. I think that if I just get a good graphics card and enough memory, I will be fine. So I did that and am hoping for the best when FS X comes out! I didn't hear that Vista got delayed, well that won't matter if I can play FS X on my XP ;D
