Hi everyone, I'm a pretty frugal flightsimmer, so I've bought very little in the way of payware addons. (I'd like to support the developers more, but I have other financial obligations). I was wondering if, based on past experience, someone can tell me whether we're likely to see many price cuts on FS9 addons when FSX is released?

Maybe a $1 off. What those designers make in profits is little, and any price cuts means almost no profit!(Well, maybe Aerosoft could cut down their prices just a tad ) So, I would say a very slight price cut will be made, but the FS-X material will be more expensive then FS9 things, so it will be a big price cut when you compare the two! I think that FS9 freeware may slow down also, if more people like me, move on to FS-X to design. But, there are a lot of people with Tom's opinion, they have FS9 tuned just how they like it, so they will certainly keep coming, I think...

Aerosoft has already cut their Beaver, size][/quote]
Wanna re-phrase that, sounds painful! LOL
I was in Best Buy this am and FS2002 was selling for MORE than FS2004.

There may be a few markdowns in the next couple of months, but my guess is the developers are already scrambling to make their stuff work with FSX. As soon as FSX is released, I would expect all commercial development for FS9 will just stop.

Now that is surprising! I know you say expect, but to hear someone expecting all of the development to stop is rather, bad...for the FS9ers. I suppose some may live on, I am sure Abacus will be one of them. While the money makers want to go where their customers go.

I'm with the Commander on this but bear in mind that some stuff may well work fine in both FS9 and FSX.

My bet is that there will be a slow migration FSX. It's system requiements will force people to upgrade systems to take advantage of the new technology. The economy is slowing and people are going to have to make hard choices. Out of control energy costs will have a huge dampening effect on peoples abilities to redirect dollars for luxuries.
As some of you may know we are getting ready for our first commercial release. The prices will indeed come down, but there will be a market.

I agree with Spad54. There will be a good market for FS9 add-ons for a long time into the future as many people decide not to move on, but I am certain the major payware developers will abandon FS9 immediately. That has been an historic pattern. I think only Abacus and Carenado have any FS2002 product available.

Golden Age Simulations is committed to continued support for FS9 and Golden Wings. Others may abandon FS9 but we will remain there for those that wish to remember the age of flight that sang with the sound of radial engines, the hum of flying wires and open space devoid of the smell of jet fuel and FAA inspectors.
Long live the Age!

Tin Head is a bit of a cynic. Despite the fact that the big payware companies will move on, I suspect these forums will be here for a long time to support and encourage Golden Wings/Silver Wings development. (And that most certainly means FS9) Speaking for myself, I have FS9 tweaked to my preferences in 4 seperate installs. I will get FSX as soon as it's available but all I have read so far indicates I will be unable to enjoy all the new features without a major computer upgrade. Time will tell... BUT right now I am sure enjoying FS9/SW/GW and I'm in no rush to change.

I know it is un-American to say so, but change does not always equal progress - although we can always hope!
