It's a question many people have been wondering about. And I have an answer to it! I found that the backwards compatibility of FS-X is actually, backwards! The alpha channel settings must be opposite now, because what used to be real reflective in FS9 is now almost transparent in FSX! I only found one completely compatible airplane out of the 10 I tried. Surprisingly, it was Golden Age Simulation's Waco! Here are some pictures to show the results of my tests: Yup, see how the spinner is more transparent then the wings? Opposite alpha case. The DC-3 also has transparency problem, and it looks like there is something changed with FS material types, because no longer are the windows clear, they are blue transparent! The DC-3 virtual cockpit looks great! The default Cessna also had the transparency problem, but there's something else to see! Look, the gauges are automatically changed to the FS-X look. Very nice. And now for the unharmed Waco, very cool!
Now future FS-X designers are going to need to find out what changes have been made, and how to compensate this in their designing process.
