Uploaded today to both Avsim and Flightsim. Uses Jens' Solent 3, sol_3_v1.zip. ---------------------------------------------- On the 4th. May 1949 BOAC introduced Short Solent flying boats to Southampton-Johannesburg service.
These new 'boats replaced the Hythe-class aircraft used since the War but they were destined to only serve for about a year before flying boats were withdrawn from the South African service completely.
The route, which took four-and-a-half days to complete, was Southampton - Augusta (Sicily) - Cairo - Luxor - Khartoum - Port Bell (on the northern extremity of Lake Victoria, in Uganda) - Victoria Falls and then Vaaldam (or "Vaal Dam"), a large lake approx. 40 miles south of Johannesburg.
One additional file is required - vicfalls.zip, by Holger Sandmann.------------------------------------------------------------- Bruce

Bruce- How does one create the three files for a flight? Is it very difficult..tech wise?.... Not really, Royce. For the PLN, WX and FLT files It's a pretty straightforward procedure and the only essential tools are all there in FS2004, right in the following window.......... (I say essential because there are times when the third-party utility "FSNavigator" comes in handy for creating out-and-back flights, where you return to the airfield from which you departed. You can't do that via the user interface in FS itself.) The laboursome part of a flight creation comes when creating landing locations such as I have done for flying boats. Because they are historical locations they don't exist in FS so the BGL file has to be created and for this I use AFCAD2, a third-party utility. Before I did this I opted to use as a waypoint just the closest NDB and in the flight information simply said to look for the nearest body of water! But since using AFCAD2 I've been able to locate what were referred to as "alighting areas" with reasonable accuracy and the flight-plan links these locations. I receive a great deal of satisfaction and accomplishment in recreating historical journeys and, from the number of (mostly complimentary) emails I receive, I know that others enjoy flying them. If you want to have a go and create something and would like it test-flown before publishing, by all means don't hesitate in sending it Down 'Ere. I'd be very pleased to help out where possible. Regards, Bruce

Looks like an interesting flight, Bruce. I still want to start out small out in New Zealand, though. Have any suggestions for a flight there? I guess I could do a search on Avsim, I will do that now...

Kobbe, I created a little package only very recently, for two flights to and from Wellington.
On both sites.
