On the next leg of this flight, I decided to fly inland just a little to visit Rivers Inlet (YRN.) This area is not much out of the way and well worth the detour for the lovely river scenery.
Here is my flight plan. Starting from Port Hardy, my plan was to fly northward to Goose Bay, then follow the river to Rivers Inlet.
Today in the Vancouver Island area the weather was actualy quite nice. There was a lot of turbulence that made level flying a little difficult.
Taking off from Port Hardy and bidding farewell to Vancouver Island.
Once of the nice things about flying the Inner Passage, is that not only do you have the beautiful scenery, but there are plenty of ships on the passage as well. I was surprised to spot this vintage vessel though.
More ships. (Though this kind of looks like an accident in the making.)
Approaching Goose Bay.
Turning into the river.
I decided to land on the water. The water turned out to be quite rough. I decided to beach my plane in the soft muddy sand until the water calmed down some.
I'll have to check my floats and make sure I didn't damage them, but damage to the floats seemed preferable to my plane being tipped over in that freezing water. ;D
(By the way, Xplane really does simulate rough water. I was starting to feel a little sick by the time I got my plane out of the water. I better make a point of checking the water condition if I intend to land on it. ;D )
