Arrived home from work about half-an-hour ago and the mailbox contained the package. I have just installed it to the desktop PC and will now fire it up and see what it offers............ (A little like "lighting the blue touch paper and standing well clear"! ) Back later. Bruce EDIT! Well...that's absolutely brilliant....NOT! Attempting to initiate and this is what appears:- "A required security module cannot be activated. This program cannot be executed (5016)" Anyone know what this means? Bruce

Oh, this helpful message was received from the Securom "support" thing!
"Hello.
Thank you for your e-mail. It seems that a file monitor causes a software conflict. Please close this program and try launching the program again."
What the heck is a "file monitor"?! Obviously this is a computer-generated message, reacting to the log file that I sent. I wonder what is required to actually get a response from a human?!
Anyone want a fresh, unused copy of EA/Kuju "Rail Simulator", North American version?
Bruce

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble getting it to run, Bruce.
The problem you are describing sounds like your computer may be having trouble reading the copy protection code off of the disc when you start the program. Just a suggestion, but have you tried it on another computer?

Okay Bruce.... that's it!!! That's the definitive proof I've been waiting for...... "Thank You!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
We're relatives!!!!
WOW.....and I thought my luck sometimes ran on the south side. Sure hope it's something simple and you can get it up and running.
Good Luck!
I suppose saying "Good things come to those who wait" really doesn't help much, huh?
Yeah...... it never did for me either. (smile)
Cheers!!

Brian, Already been down that road.......thus the computer-generated answer I received from Securom when I sent the AnalysisLog file. It works on my son's laptop. However, I want to run it to my desktop PC, and it certainly installs fine....three times it has installed without problem, so there is nothing wrong with the DVD reader. I cannot find any "emulator" or "file monitor" existing on my PC, which they suggest I isolate. What makes me angry is that nowhere in the promotional material, nowhere on the exterior of the box, is any mention made that, as well as installing the program I paid AUS$100 for, it will also secretly install another utility that will affect the functionality of my PC. I hate this attitude of IT companies (Securom is a Sony off-shoot......'nuff said?) who seem to think that they have a God-given right to treat us all like potential criminals. I have sent a strongly-worded email to Securom but, after spending two hours last night trawling the internet for information on this problem I am convinced that they will do absolutely nothing about it..........not just for me but for anyone who is similarly affected. And there appears to be a lot, as this protection is included in many games now. So.......RS now gathers dust and it's back to MSTS for me. Bruce

Bruce, do you have any processes turned off? I.E. did you do a black viper pc optimization? I had this same issue with another program and it was because I had a process turned off. Just thought this might be it. I haven't got my version yet. I am a bit busy and I know if I go and install it I will just play it for a few days straight so I am holding off.

I hope you eventually get it all worked out. It's very frustrating to be looking forward to something and have it not work when it has arrived. I've been there before.
I've had similar problems with EA discs before due to the kind of security they use on their discs not working before.

No utility. You would know if you turned off any processes. I thought maybe you optimized your PC for gaming but that would be something you would remember doing. you can turn off unneeded processes to make your PC run the sim faster but like I said, it is something you would remember doing for sure. Wish I could help you out cause like Kevin said, that is nothing worse than looking forward to something and then you cant use it once you get it.

I'm sure sorry you're having so much trouble with the sim. Like you..... there is nothing I hate worse than getting something you've been waiting for just to find out the developer has some type of software that doesn't allow all computers to run it. In fact.... there is one flightsim company I will never again buy from because of their stupid software piracy program. I'm all for developers trying to protect themselves from thieves.... but it always seems us honest folks are the ones caught up in the war. Good luck on your quest..... sure wish I knew the answer for you! Cheers!!

No utility. You would know if you turned off any processes. .... Aaah. Okay....I see what you mean, having visited the Viper's site today at work. No luck anywhere at all so I reckon it's just a matter of me NOT reformatting my HDD. I'm not giving EA the satisfaction! Guess I await MSTS2......and, as i said earlier, continue with MSTS. There's plenty of life left in that. Incidentally, I'm serious about passing the program to someone else. It is the USA version, imported into Oz, and cost me AUS$89.00 + AUS$10.00 postage. If anyone wants it, I'm prepared to swap it for something you don't want but that I might like. Doesn't even have to be of the same value. Cheers! Bruce
