Spooky is right and as Bruce said, especially in the winter!
Now, night time in the summer is, I've found when driving long distances on the interstate, very relaxing - with the radio of a long distance station fading in and out while playing a favorite, or the wind in your hair with the fresh smell of early morning fields, a good cup of coffee, and the space of the open road . . .
I would imagine that would be the same in a train . . . and that would be very nice!
So, I think I'll do that, now that you've sparked my attention, Kevin. ;D Anyone know of good route through the Midwest - preferably Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, etc. I've looked, can't find much.

Dan..... many years ago I had a route from Chicago down thru Decatur, Ill. Great route.... that was about the only one I ever ran. However, I still haven't located it since my MSTS has been put back on the box...... but honestly..... I haven't looked very hard either.
My guess is..... I most likely picked it up at Train-Sim.com as that was about the only place I visited back in those days.
Good Luck!

The snow does add to it. Dan, I can't think of any mid western routes right off, but if it's open road you'd like, Carrizo Gorge v2.1 by Mark DiVecchio, though more south-western has a lot of open road. File on Train-Sim is: sda21.zip

......Anyone know of good route through the Midwest - preferably Illinois, Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas, South Dakota, etc. I've looked, can't find much.... Conrail Indianapolis v2, Dan. Runs from Avon to Marion, Ohio. Look for cr_indy2.zip (2007). (In 2003 I did an Activity for the original edition. It has had over 1,700 downloads. Maybe I should update it for the latest route version! ) Please excuse me if this doesn't fall into your category as I'm not really up with where you classify "Midwest". Nebraska brings to mind the "Crawford Hill" route. It represents a short section (~25 miles) of the busy BNSF line serving the coalfields in that area but is fabulous for its authenticity and heavy haulage up the grade. Look for crawhill.zip and the update crfd_upd.zip at www.train-sim.comThere's also the GM&O route. Look for gmonew18.zip. There are 13 files for this one. Maybe this is of some help. Regards, Bruce

Yes this is MSTS. Still looks pretty good, doesn't it? The pictures are of Maple Leaf Tracks' CP Rogers Pass addon. For a look at another great looking route (and possibly the best done to date), the WP Feather River route by 3DTrains, take a look at the pictures I posted in this post; mainescenery.proboards24.com/index.cgi?board=trains&action=display&thread=1202767023I liked the fifth picture down in the second group (the one in the train yard with the old white and blue car) so much that I'm currently using it as wallpaper. ;D I had abandoned MSTS for a while when I went over to Trainz, but recently I have been rediscovering it. Addons like the Feather River route have convinced me that there is a lot of life in the old sim yet. Now I use both MSTS and Trainz (as well as KRS) which ever one the mood strikes me for.

Thanks, guys!
I'm downloading, as we speak, one of the Chicago routes (not sure if its the same as you had Sgtmajor) and the GM&O route, you mentioned Bruce - (big file) but both look the ticket I was searching for.
Hopefully, they will provide a long fast 'flat' ride through the Midwest. I'd like to find or buy a UP or Burlington route through Kansas, Nebraska, Colorado, etc. as I had mentioned, but not much out there. But, did find a Milwaukee Road Rocky Mountain route that might also fill the bill.
Anyway, thanks for the info! ;D

Hopefully, they will provide a long fast 'flat' ride through the Midwest....... I'm obviously off target a bit then, Dan! But if you want a "long, fast 'flat' ride", the Conrail Indianapolis route fits the bill. It is also nicely scenic-ed. Bruce

You were close, Bruce! You got me looking even deeper and I found the Conrail Indianapolis route last night that you mentioned. But, I'm still downloading the GM&O route and just got kicked off Train-Sim for "No Time left for Today". So, will have to pick up after midnight. While I was looking at different sites, I found a fictional route called ADFRR - "a scenic route located roughly between the Western Slope of the Rockies to Western Missouri", which looks interesting. hawkdawg.com/MSTS/rts/adf/adfrr.htmThe author states - "It is basically a compression of 2,000 miles into 300 miles and was inspired by a train trip I took as a youngster during a pre-Christmas snowstorm. The indelible image of that rotary plow in front blowing snow for what seemed hundreds of feet, leading a magnificent passenger consist to clear the way has stayed with me to this day." So, with these three routes, I should be busy for awhile. ;D Thanks for the help!! Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

.....Thanks for the help!! ... No worries, Dan. That new Indy route, by-the-way, is far superior (scenery) than the previous version. I'll have to update my Activity for this. Bruce

Bruzee, thanks for the HU regarding the song!
I finally had some time today to listen and download it - it is great and so is the video - very nicely done!
Their new in progress "Western & Atlantic Railroad" circa-1862 looks interesting - especially for that time period.
