I was over at YouTube . . . looking for some videos of a C-124 'Old Shakey' - didn't find any, but did come across this video of a B-36 takeoff - from the movie Strategic Air Command w/Jimmie Stewart. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZSpqFPSK_c&feature=relatedGreat great movie (amazing how it looks like FS9). I should never go to YouTube - takes hours to get back out . . . Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

....I should never go to YouTube - takes hours to get back out . . . ... Ditto, Dan! Strategic Air Command is an excellent film when it comes to being able to view the B-36. I don't think that aircraft has featured in too many other major movies. Bruce

Beautiful shots, Roger! Alphasim did a great job on this one - especially the sound package - so distinctive of that era. I need to crank mine up soon - actually, I need to find an authentic '50's SAC mission for it. I also need to buy that movie! Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Man, I don't generally like flying the warbirds (I still like ferrying virtual civilians around the globe), but that plane looks like pure awesome! I grew up around bombers (a B-52 base), maybe I should try flying one (virtually!).

Dan, cgi.ebay.com.au/STRATEGIC-AIR-COMMAND-VHS-JAMES-STEWART-JUNE-ALLYSON_W0QQitemZ290258662983QQihZ019QQcategoryZ309QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem"Jimmy" Stewart plays a USAF reserve officer recalled to active duty to fly B-36 and B-47 nuclear bombers for the Strategic Air Command. The film accurately portrays (although more from a 1951 than a 1955 perspective) the duties and responsibilities of service in the Air Force, and the strains such service placed on family life. The film also features some of the most dramatic aerial photography ever filmed, accompanied by Victor Young's soaring musical score. It also is the only major motion picture to highlight the B-36, then near the end of its service life and about to be replaced by the B-52. Stewart's character is a professional Baseball player recalled to active duty. He is injured on duty, which not only bars him from further flying (he leaves the Air Force at the end of the film) but also appears to end his baseball career. Some commentators speculated that the plot was inspired by Ted Williams who was drafted for Korean War service as a Marine Corps pilot, at the height of his baseball career. Cast: * James Stewart as Lt. Col. Robert "Dutch" Holland. * June Allyson as Sally Holland. * Frank Lovejoy as Gen. Ennis C. Hawkes (character based on Gen. Curtis LeMay). * Harry Morgan as Sgt. Bible, a flight engineer. ============================================== Some trivia.... Harry Morgan wll be remembered from MASH (the TV series) and Frank Lovejoy was Randy Stone, star of the radio-drama series of the 1950's, "Night Beat". Bruce

Well, I missed . . . So, looked for some other copies and found some on DVD, but I don't think their entirely legal. Went to Turner Classic Movies and found the schedule for the next showing and it's not to far off - October 21st at 02:00 PM (assuming EST). I think I'll tape it - provided I remember that date/time! Here is the link for anyone else that may want to record it. www.tcm.com/tcmdb/search.jsp?methodName=allwwwSearch&keyword=strategic+air+commandDan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Bad luck, Dan. This movie was never released on DVD, so anything that you find (and that I've found) will be a "copy". However, one of those retailers (!) claims that there is no copyright on this movie. This is what his eBay description includes.........
"THIS MOVIE IS A CRISP DIGITAL CONVERSION FROM THE FILM COLLECTION OF A FRIEND, WITH EXELLENT PICTURE AND SOUND ONTO DVD,THE DISC COMES WITH ARTWORK,AS DOES THE SLIMLINE DVD CASE IT WILL COME IN. NOTICE TO EBAY:THIS MOVIE IS LISTED AFTER VISITING THE SITE OF THE BRITISH VIDEO ASSOCIATION TO SATISFY MYSELF THAT THE SUBJECT OF THIS LISTING IS NO LONGER IN COPYRIGHT. IT IS NOT MY INTENTION TO INFRINGE COPYRIGHT LAWS. THIS DVD IS RATED AS REGION 0,AND SHOULD PLAY ON 99% DVD PLAYERS WORLD WIDE".

Interesting, Bruce! I wouldn't think that a copyright would ever expire, but then again I could be wrong - not sure why the copyright would be under the authority of the British Video Association when it's a US film. I think before I'd would buy it, I'd check with Paramount Pictures about the copyright. But, then again, I think I'll just tape it, since it's never been converted over to a DVD format anyway - Jimmy Stewart deserves better! Thanks for the information! Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D
