A quick question for anyone here that uses sbuilder for FS9 on a regular basis. I am using sbuilder (in this case anyway) to lay ground polys around my airport and normally that causes an exclude of autogen trees and such from that area, however evey now and than I still get a tree popping up in thins area. This has never happened on other projects and I am wondering if anyone has a solution for this or maybe can point out a better way to create an exclude with sbuilder. I try the normal exclude method but I can never find the right default layer for excluding trees. Best, Keith

Keith,
It's been a long time since I've done anything with SBuilder or FS2004, but....
'...I try the normal exclude method but I can never find the right default layer for excluding trees.... '
Are you using VTP exclude?..... I don't believe that autogen is part of any vtp layer.
The only method I ever used to exclude autogen is to create 'exclude rectangle(s)' and select 'all objects'.

It's been awhile for me, but I think I remember.
Before putting down a photo VTP polygon, I'd put a layer of something such as grass. If you use the right grass, no weed autogen should pop up.
However, the safest way to go is how Dave does it. Using exclude rectangles.

Thanks guys. Kobbe, I am doing the same thing you are in placing a layer of grass, dirt, sand etc. that has no trees or bushes (bare I think it is called) and I never had any issues till once some trees popped up. I let the database rebuild and they want away but it was still strange. I agree with the excludes but when trying to exclude an odd shaped plot of land rectangles sometimes cover more area then you want. Does any program allow you to do an exclude with specific (and multiple) points? Like drawing a poly area??
Thanks, Keith

If you are using FS9 then you can remove trees using an exclusion rectangle if it is set to exclude All. This doesn't work in FSX but should work in FS9

Thanks Scruffy. I do that now but the problem I have is that sometimes the areas are not north/south or east/west. I find it a snap to draw a rectangle over a north/south or east/west area BUT with working in an area that is very odd shaped or maybe sits at a northwest angle (just for example) the rectangle are covers much more than the area I want to exclude. Unless I am doing something wrong (and believe me that is often the case when using sbuilder) I can only get the excludes to do rectangles and not specific areas like when doing a VTP. Is it just me or does the exclude limit you a bit in area shape? Sometimes I use many smaller rectangles but I was just hoping there was a better way.

For odd shaped excludes, I think Scruffy's Scenery tool is the right one for you. I recall you being able to input point coordinates to form an exclude area. Correct me if I'm wrong, Scruffy. It's been awhile.

Now THAT sounds like what I am looking for.

Not quite true. There is a tool to create irregular shaped filled polygons but all exclusions rectangles are well rectangluar.

Ah, I knew there was some kind of poly you could make with points in your program, but not what I was thinking of.

Oh well. I guess there is no way around using many small rectangles.
