Hi all!
I really enjoy FS2004 but was looking at folder sizes last night. What started out to be a not too slim game to begin with has turned out to be a 12.1 GB monster! I have over two hundred planes, most of which I never fly and not a few that I had even forgotten about. But, I am getting some wonderful scenery and the flying experience is altogether much more pleasant than the original FS2004. I'm sure that other folks have even bigger FS2004 folders; whats yours? Just curious.
Cheers,
Phil

Well I have recently re-installed FS again so mine's smaller than it used to be. The main FS folder is 10.5 Gb with a substantial number of aircraft yet to install, and the FSG mesh folder on another drive is another 15 Gb with 4-5 sets not yet installed. Amazing isn't it

FS9 = 21.0 GB Hangar (planes held outside of the FS9 folder) = 17.4 GB Terrain Mesh (separate folder shared with FS2002) = 4.61 GB TOTAL = 43.01 GB
Pretty close to what Roger has.
1125 aircraft, with about half kept in a hangar folder outside the FS9 folder so they don't slow down FS9 loading. I have no idea how many repaints I have - it would take me all day to count them. Probably several thousand. At least.
And no, I haven't flown all those planes!
I'm sure there are hundreds that I'll never fly, and I'd be happy to delete them, but I have no idea which ones they are. Who knows what I'll be in the mood to fly next week, or next year...?

Well, I just looked - never really paid much attention to the size factor and now I'm sorry I did. This is so bad even though about the size of Mick's main FS9 folder.
Size: 21.8 Gb 98,198 Files 3,773 Folders
What an addiction - incredible really how FS builds and builds and like many - there are a lot of planes that I never fly, but can't bring myself to delete them either!

Geez! I'm a rank amature by you guys standard. I'm on my second install of FS and didn't add all the airplanes I had in the first install but at its most I never had over about 13/14 GB. Probably the biggest add-on I have is the FSGenesis freeware mesh for the US. I put it all in. Love it! I have four DVD's full of airplanes and stuff, perhaps 99.9% of which I have no intention of ever installing but I downloaded the stuff anyhow. Maybe we need to start a support forum for FS add-on addiction? ;D ;D
Cheers,
Phil

Phil- You can beat the download addiction Its hard and there are days when you'll backslide. I downloaded a CRJ in a weak moment "to look at the gauges" I still download more than I install but I'm getting better.

Im with Tom on this I download stuff but never install most of it. But as for Airplanes I have a lot of them and never fly them but I have them in FS9 so when I fly mulitplayer I can see the other guys plane. I sure hope that Microsoft works on this part of flight sim so we dont have to have the plane in our my computer to see it. Just my two cents.

I think my primary addiction is to sound files. I seem to be always looking for the perfect sound file for airplane x. I'll be the first to admit that I'm not smart enough to be changing gauges.
Now, about that 30's vintage sim................................ ;D

Phil, I'm the same - always looking for that perfect sound - sometimes I find them - and - sometimes I don't. I couldn't find any for a Lockheed Electra awhile back - so I took some that were close and edited them and edited them and edited them again and again - until finally they sounded like the perfect helicopter!!!
Actually, not, but took over 5 days of configuring late into the night - drove my wife crazy - she said I would make airplane noises in my sleep. I asked if they sounded good - she said I sounded like a wasp - I asked if it was a wasp jr. - 300 or 450 hp ? No response -
What is this about a 30's vintage sim. I think I missed something here - can someone fill me in?

Tom, it would be grand - especially if it came with only 30's scenery - old air fields, airports, dirt strips, hangers, water towers, coffee shops, etc. And, no modern electronics - just old flying maps, compass's and wind socks. Old snow storms, rain storms, and a thousand big ol' fluffy clouds that one could just fly in to, out of, and all around without someone saying you can't do that. Throw in some '30 sounds and a good vintage plane, a couple of beers and a good looking red head with a long white scarf - and well - it would be what flying was meant to be - -
Yup - it would be great!
