Good Evening All!
I'm going to build a new computer, with the idea being to be able to run FS9 and FSX smoothly. If I post all the parts I plan on using could someone tell me if they are all compatible and if the resulting computer will do what I want it to do? I built my last box in 04 and the technology sure has changed since then!
My current puter ate too much smoke during a recent fire and is slowly dying.

Post away Phil, I'm sure between us all we should be able to offer some advice and suggestions.

Thank you Roger! We had a fire and the house suffered a lot of smoke damage. My puter was running at the time and swallowed a lot of smoke. So its FINALLY time to build a new one. Here's what I'm looking at:
Motherboard: ASUS M3A-H/HDMI AM2+AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX Newegg #N82E1681313289
Hard drive: Western Digital Caviar SE WD5000AAJS 500GB 7200RPM SATA 3.0GB/S Newegg #N82E16822136178
CPU: AMD PHENOM 9600 AGENA 2.3GHZ SOCKET AM2+ 95W QUAD CORE MODEL HD960ZWCGDBOX Newegg #N82E16819103244
MEMORY: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2X1GB) 240 PIN DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC28500)DUAL CHANNEL MODEL TWIN 2X2048-8500C5DF Newegg #N82E16820145173
VIDEO CARD: EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GEFORCE 8800GT 512MB 256-BIT GDDR3 PCI EXPRESS 2.0 X16 HDCP READY SLI SUPPORTED Newegg #N82E16814130318
POWER SUPPLY: CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V/EPS12V POWER SUPPLY Newegg #N82E16817139006
CPU FAN: ZEROTHERM NIRVANA NV120 120MM 2-BALL UFO BEARING Newegg # N82E16835887011
Thats pretty much the nuts and bolts of it. Some more new case fans, a new DVD burner, round cables instead of the ribbon type.
I just want to make sure that all this stuff is compatible within the package and that it will all work together. I'm running FS9 as Silver Wings with another version set up as Golden Wings 3. I'd like to get FSX some time. I'm running Windows XP SP2. My current computer runs FSX at about 1 to 2 fps. Its an AMD 1.8ghz with 2GB of RAM. Its getting slower and slower.
Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated so I don't put about a thousand dollars in this project only to find that the video card won't work with the motherboard or some such. And, when done, will it run FS9 and FSX with an acceptable frame rate.
Thanks all,
Phil

Phil, I've spoken to Ted over at the Sim Outhouse who suggested the spec for my new computer and evidently the AMD processor is not the way to go. Intel dual and quad core processors are the way to go for now. If you're happy to accept some advice from Ted I'll put you in touch.
Roger.

Hi Roger,
I'd be delighted to talk to him. I have about one shot at doing this and don't want to spend a bunch of money only to find that I've built the wrong machine.
Thank you for the time Roger, it is much appreciated!
Cheers,
Phil

Phil, Sent you an e.mail to the address you gave in your TOH registration. If that address isn't current perhaps you'd e.mail me with a new address.
Roger.

Hi Roger,
Got your e-mail and replied to it. Sure is ok, I appreciate the help. Got the insurance check so as soon as we figure out what components to get I'll be on the way. Never built an Intel machine so it will be a new experience for me. Thanks again for your help in this Roger. I'll let you know how it comes out.
Do you know anything about PMDG? A friend of mine is thinking about getting their 747-400. From what he says it is a very detailed, highly complex model. His thing, not mine. I tend to the STA and Stinson Reliant type. (:>)
Cheers,
Phil
