"Realism - All sliders to the Right" I was re-installing and/or tweaking a couple of planes in this old/new computer the other night (believe one was the MAAM DC-3 and one other) and came a cross a couple of lines of text in both that basically said "If you want to enjoy the full realism of this plane, we suggest that you move all of the Realism sliders to the right or something to that affect - so I did . . . and WOW what a difference!! Finally, after all these years, the planes feel like their really in 'flight'. Like there's air underneath the wings - they float, they slide, they catch that pock of air (whatever you call it) just before landing and literally float onto the runway - the way they should and every landing has been right on - squeak squeak. ;D Just thought I'd mention this, if anyone else has had the sliders set elsewhere - I always had them in the middle. I know, I know - Dan, where have you been . . . Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Well, I feel like I owe Roger and all those who have tried my steam aircraft an apoligy! I have been flying all this time with all the sliders to the left (easy). Since reading this thread, I tried sliding them all the way to right. I have not tried out my steam fleet yet; but another "weird design" I am working on is reasonably docile on the easy settings; but becomes all but unmanagable with the sliders all the way to the right. Will be more carefull about testing flying, and making sure I test in this relm before unleashing anything on the public. Thanks for the heads-up. Are there any other planes out there that fly fine on easy settings, but become unmanagable on hard settings? I was just wondering how widespread an issue this is. -James

Yes that is an interesting discussion and I keep my sliders full right. When I fly in real life I fly a Piper Cherokee 140 and even with that plane I have to use a little righ rudder on take off to keep her lined up on the cener line.

Ah. I do my real world flying in a Luscombe 8E, an airplane that requires one to pay attention to keep it tracking straight down the runway, but unless wind conditions are fairly challenging, I am rarely aware of what I am doing with the controls. That isn't the case when flying the sim. The difference is probably caused in part by of the lack of kinesthetic cues when flying the sim, and in part by the fact that my sim controls only vaguely resemble the stick, throttle, and and rudder pedals in a real plane, but it is a big difference nonetheless. That makes my work as a designer all the more difficult, because after I've plugged in all the numbers and tested the plane in every flight mode imaginable, I'm still never sure if the plane is really "realistic." I won't say it keeps me awake at night, but it does keep me working longer than may be strictly necessary.

Far right people...always far right unless the modeller advice you otherwise.
Helos instead....well, my choice is 50%...or less.
Hijacking the thread: What are your sound sliders settings? I used to have them all far right also, but then, I bought the PMDG 737 and it advices to set the engine sound in the middle. I haven't changed since then and sounds well for tubes, but a little too loud for props.

Damian, I have my settings about the same - after reading a number of threads years ago from real pilots and good designers. Currently, the settings are: Engines - 55 Cockpit - 62 (I like to hear the clicks - makes me feel official) Environment - 50 Nav - 50 Lessons - 0 (Never listen to them) Air Traffic - 50 (Never listen to them either) These seem to be the most comfortable for my type of flying and ears and seem to work well for 90% of the planes I fly, which is anything from taildraggers, byplanes, general aviation, private jets, airliners, and supersonic military jets - rockets. Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D
