And now the eyes have it  I'll tell you something though, the placement of the eyes is so uncomfortable - the cowling is a two-parter on the PK and the outer bit is reverse mapped i.e. left at the top and right at the bottom. If you've seen the PK, you'll know.

WOW Chris beautiful work and your fast. Thanks. Speed is just a matter of knowing the paintkit. First time round it can take even weeks to figure out the modellers convoluted thinking. Once you've sussed him out, you're on a roller...

HOOOLY CRAP they look great, many many thanks. If I wanted to do paints or build planes what for software would I need? Thank you again Chris ;D say Chris just for a more WWI look you think the red DR1 rudder would look better with the factory Fokker DR1 like on the black and yellow DR1 instead of the N220 number up to you on that one

I'll get back to you on that JR.
Just to let you guys know - all three DR1 skins are going up right now - Avsim. Give them the usual chance to activate them and search "chris brisland" in the file library - sort by date and these will be top of the list.

HOOOLY CRAP they look great, many many thanks. If I wanted to do paints or build planes what for software would I need? Thank you again Chris ;D say Chris just for a more WWI look you think the red DR1 rudder would look better with the factory Fokker DR1 like on the black and yellow DR1 instead of the N220 number up to you on that one First of all you will need the plane that you want to paint... A paintkit from the plane's maker helps, but in the end, you can work from a fairly plain paint as well - viz the "white" default skins in FSX A fairly good paint tool helps. Photoshop is most commonly used, but it is very very expensive. Dare I wonder how many painters actually own a legal copy? You can buy older versions cheap, mind, and pay the upgrade fee. I use Corel Draw X3 suite (paid ) Some folk use Paintshop Pro - an excellent app in the lower price category, BUT the best for a beginner has got to be GIMP - it is everything that Photoshop is and it is FREE!!! Then you need DXTbmp from MNWright (google on both terms, you'll find it - it's free) This converts your windows bitmaps to dxt format. Then you'll need imagetool from the SDK - remember to use the most up to date SDK to match your installed FSX (acceleration in my case) This converts DXT textures to DDS so that FSX can use them. Why two conversions? DXTbmp can convert to dds, but that dds format is somehow not right for FSX - it doesn't work. So then you do a double convert. But at least you are sure in the end, that things is good! I also use FSrepaint from Abacus - not because it's a good paint tool, but because you can see your paint rendered a lot faster than reloading FSX planes all the time. As for rudders, I prefer the white rudder with the black cross most. But that's all a matter of choice. As to how to paint - that is a looong story. I don't find it too difficult, but then I have been playing with computer-based graphics for nearly 27 years already. I guess you do need practice and experience with your chosen paint programme. BUT I say start with GIMP and play around for free,

Chris..... You are the Master!!!!!! I got home from San Diego yesterday, however, head out for Anaheim tomorrow for another business trip but had a few moments last night to pull up the old DR1.
I just now came in the forum to tell Joe that I think this was beyond my capabilities. After seeing the so called "Paint Kit" I remembered how difficult it was for anything more than the paint splattering I'm able to attempt.
Anyway.... I'm happy Joe got his aircraft...... and even HAPPIER you did them. (smile)
Great work as always!!
Cheers!!

Thanks for the flowers Steve, although that particular paintkit is so well structured and layered, it's relatively easy to mask and fill. Took a while separating a few of the bits into extra layers - I think I hit 300+ for the pig's behind
And then there's seven NZ skins that you can all practice on - most of them use the same paint for wings and fuselage, just the hue-saturation-brightness values change.
I still want my Pitts, Christen Eagle, Super Chipmunk and the like for FSX... I am just not flying these days - apart from a couple of circuits each time to dry the paint...
