I saw this posted at Avsim (main page) the other day and took a look see - absolutely excellent tutorials on a number of flight simulation topics - by a 'real' pilot' no less. Stoenworks Aviation TutorialsPosted: Friday, June 27, 2008 - 20:38 "For almost 25 years Hal Stoen got paid to fly airplanes. During that time He was a flight instructor, flew charter, mail, commuter airline, and, for the last 18 years, a corporate pilot and of late avid simmer, Born of his enthusiasm www.stoenworks.com is filled with much to interest aviation buffs , Tutorials and Anecdotes from a dedicated professional."www.avsim.com/His site does not give his experience and what he offers to the flight simulation world the justice it deserves. There are a number of great free tutorials, stories (a true one involving a Cessna 421B - extremely intense) and information that I have found to be very good in relating the flying of a simulator to flying the real deal, since I've never flown the real deal. www.stoenworks.com/Aviation%20home%20page.htmlHe also offers a CD for a nominal charge, which contains over 900 pages of tutorials, instructions, flight and simulation related material. I just order it - since after 4+ years of simulation, I'm tired of bouncing down runways. Thought I'd mention it. Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Hallo Dan. When I first started flight simming a few years ago and decided it was more than a game I got a link to Hal's site and purchased his CD. It started me on the road to flying properly and enhanced my enjoyment immensely. Highly recommended and Hal always responded to Email queries and is very helpful. Enjoy the CD and hope you stop bouncing down runways as a result!!! superhuey

It started me on the road to flying properly and enhanced my enjoyment immensely. superhuey Your right, Superhuey! I got my CD a couple of weeks ago and have tried a number of his techniques, especially landing, and it has helped "immensely"! ;D Hal has a great down-to-earth way of instructing and with his sense of humor, it's become an enjoyment in learning! As both a professional pilot and a flight simmer, he relates very well to the sim world with real world 'how to(s)'. Welcome to the Old Hanger!! Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Thanks for the welcome Dan. I got here via a link in a Grumman Goose that I downloaded from AVSIM and have already received help with a fs9.cfg edit to increase the pan rate in VC.
Great Forum

I started flying in FS before the real planes (Unless you consider my 5 hours or so in an ultralight) and the built in FS courses actually helped some. I'd download and print off a checklist for the 172 and use that for the default 172 in FS9. You can practice the different types of landings/takeoffs and get better before you know it!
