Here is another lovely aircraft from Steve Myers. The Davis parasol. Steve made it for FS2002, but I am sure you will enjoy it in FS9. The file is: 'Davis.zip' at AvSim Here are 4 repaints I made for it. The file is: 'Davis_l2.zip' This is a real fun plane....try it....or else, Leon Louis

Leon, you are right, this is a very nice and fun plan to fly. I have it for over a year now - one of my favorites. I also added your repaints awhile back - they look execellent on this plane - especially the Orange/Dark Blue! Dan

I remember Steve teasing us in the Fs2002 forum at the SOH and I couldn't believe the look of this fabulous model. I still fly it and in Fs2004 it simply needs the engine idle setting taking up a notch or two to prevent it cutting out at idle. I think it was Steve's...what a great model for a starter ;D

Hey Leon, Just a thought...would it be possible to darken the wheel hubs down for Fs9...they white-out in Fs9.

Hi Roger,
Yes it is easily done. I did not modify those at all for FS9, just a suggestion that they work well.
At the moment, I am busy working on a special request from someone who sent in a donation. I may correct this when I am done.
Cheers.
Leon Louis

Thanks, everyone! You can lighten the alpha channel behind the wheel covers to ease that white-out issue a bit. I think DXTbmp will let you send the alpha to your paint program for editing. Just lighten a few shades of grey and reload after editing. I forget which texture it's on though. Best To All, smyers

Steve, just a short question - is there a sound file that you would recommend for this plane. I found a couple of files awhile back that are representative of that engine and era, but was just curious if you had one that you use/recommend. Thanks, Dan

Dan,
If I were to do it today, I'd probably alias the stock MS Spirit of St Louis sound. There may be other sounds available, but I'm not aware of them. I'll alias a sound just to keep the D/L file size down. It'd be great to have a selection of small radial sounds available, wouldn't it?
Best Regards, smyers

Steve there is a very good sound file that is actually a Kinner Radial sound that works GREAT with your Davis....Just search the Usual sites and you will find it!...This DAVIS is Still my favorite to fly!!!....Remember that the Kinner Engine Sounds VERY similiar to the Warner radial at least up to the 145-165 Super-Scarab.....Best GIL

Steve, your right, it would be great to have a sound library of small, medium, and large radials. All classified by engine manufacturer, type, hp, and the planes they were fitted with. There are a number of engine sites I have researched on the Web to find specific planes and the types of engines they used - amazing how many planes of the 20's, 30's, & 40's era mixed and matched engines over the life the aircraft. As you know the Davis used two different ones. The site I use most often is Ken's Aviation - www.kensaviation.com/. Lots of information and engine specs on almost every airplane built. The sound files I'm presently using for the Davis I tagged "Mono90" in my sound/alias file and they sound very good for that small Warner radial. But, ask me where I found them and what there original from - that's why it would be nice to have a well organized library with the specs, aircraft, and where one found them! I'm going to try Gil's Kinner radial sounds as soon as I find them - sounds like they may be even better - Dan …it’s great being a kid again – without the glue! ;D

Hey, Everyone,
Thanks for the tip re the Kinner sounds, Gil, the ship I have going currently could benefit from a small radial sound file like that. I appreciate all your interest in that 'ol airplane, by the way!
Best Regards, smyers
