The City of New York was a Fairchild FC-2W2 flown by Charles Collyer and John Mears for the overland portions of their record-breaking around-the-world trip in June–July 1928. There is an account of the trip in the book "Round-The-World Flights: Third Edition" by Carroll V. Glines; you read a portion online at:

Their trip started out by loading the City of New York onto the steamship Olympic (the less famous White Star Line sister of the Titanic, I assume) in New York. They then waited, and took off in a seaplane to meet the Olympic outside the harbor; delaying their start time and shortening the actual time of their trip.
When they arrived at Cherbourg,
Hence, the proper start of this adventure:
Kicking up rocks as we taxi through Cherbourg:
The field at Cherbourg was just a dirt strip in 1928.
Now, we are ready for the first flying portion of this trip, following the Seine to Le Bourget in Paris.
This rough reproduction of the City of New York will also part of my completed Fairchild FC-2W2 project. I will have the legs of the trip, with dates and times (when available) on the kneeboard.
"jimslost" has been doing a fantastic job with the dynamics, and has built a beautiful panel with a new set of guages. All but the tach and the airspeed indicator worked out-of-the-box in FS2002.
Jim is completely rebuilding the dynamics files, while I continue to work on the models. I really, really really appreciate his capable help with this project.

The City of New York was taken ashore by lighter and unloaded. Collyer taxied through the narrow streets of the city to the airport with the Fairchild's wings folded.
