Caribbean Summer Tour 2005 - Leg One "My Caribbean Summer Tour is Exclusive to The Old Hanger Forums."
Well, Leg one is finished. The trip took about 2 hours & 20 minutes. I started at Key Largo Florida. Once all the checks were finished I left the beach, retracted the gear, powered up and headed into the wind (S-SW at 18-20 kts.) As I broke free of the water I began to climb out at about 900fpm (using correct mp and rpm) and reached an altitude of 11,500' give or take 500' due to the constant turbulence.... I was bouncing around like a cork on rippling pond. The Goose's engines are a bit touchy at high altitude and changing pressure. I had to be really careful to adjust mixture just right and almost lost the engines when I hit a pocket of low pressure. Leave it to Active Sky to make FS even more realistic.
The turbulence was horrible most of the way to Rum Cay. It eased up about 50 miles before landing but the wind was still a little brisk on the island, however the sky conditions were very fair and otherwise nice. I believe the wind speeds were between 14-18kts on approach and kept switching directions from a headwind to a crosswind so the landing was a bit tricky, but nothing the Goose couldn't handle.
So for now I am parked on the island and enjoying the hospitality of the island locals (I wish) until I have time for another leg. Hope you all enjoy the screenshots.
