Well,
It was fun and challenging and enjoyable but I'm no longer able to devote time and energy to The Beacon.
So, after almost ten years of ups and downs, I am closing the Beacon effective January 2010.
Will I resurrect the idea in the future? I doubt it. I no longer have the time and energy, nor the inclination, to continue the project.
If anyone wants my research files (paper) and the basic web files, I'd be happy to pass them along. The files will probably constitute 3-4 boxes of files and books.

Many people may require your valuable sources one day. I hope you "backed-upped" all the data for any future request!

That is sad news. I always enjoyed visiting the beacon, many thanks for putting all this together and keeping it alive that long. 10 years is a long time "on the web".

Gentlemen,
It appears my decision to close Beacon has shown that there is value and appreciation for the site after all. I guess I need to rethink my decision.
I received several very encouraging emails (in addition to the posts here) expressing concern and expressing loss for the site.
As a result, I am going to to take a few days and rethink the design and scope of the site. Perhaps I can scale back and focus on the areas that are both of most value to others and of interest to me.
So...stay tuned. Perhaps a phoenix is rising......
