There is a folder called Golden Wings Macros with a whole bunch of api files inside. I never was quite sure what an api file was or what it did. Can someone please tell me about the contents of that folder. What are all those api files for? Thanks.

APIs are scenery object macros that were used in older style scenery designe programs like Airport for Windows or FSSC. That is the method that Bill used in his scenery and that I used in mine from FS98 up through GW3. Those Golden Wings macros were created by Bill for others to use in their own scenery. I used some in my Maine scenery for GW3 and in some unfinished Florida Keys scenery.
Those programs were originally created for FS98, possibly earlier and used extensively through FS2004. During the post release development of FS2004, the newer method of object placement that uses mainly Gmax objects gradually made the previous method obsolete. I don't believe it is used in FSX at all. APIs are not able to be use by object placement programs although Arno Gerretsen is developing a program to convert them.
To make a long story short, you would need to find and learn to use Airport for Windows to make use of those APIs

Ah, very interesting. Thanks. So they're not actually used in GW3 at all. I think I finally figured out how to retro SW by using some files from GW3 as I was interested in my other post. Just did it today. I'll fly around a bit and then, if all is well, I'll post in case anybody else is interested.
