I have some B17 repaints that are meant to be aluminum but are dark gray . What would cause that?

Hi crashalot, maybe try a different environment map or get yourself the "shine-mdl". Both are free to have at the major sites. Otherwise it might be a graphic card issue

The computer is new and it has on-board graphics ,it will get a video card at a later date when I have the money. On a older PC with 98se and a 125mb card the same repaints were like chrome, on this PC one of them has a nice look but the other ons have a very dark gray color . They are the Yankees repaints for the WOP B17's. I am thinking it is the graphics like you say. Thanks for the reply

It was the "Alpha channel" not doing its thing there! lol. The "illusion" of a metal look in the game is given by the "illusion" of reflection (aka alpha channel). World is an illusion!

I would guess here that the B17 is an older FS9 version perhaps? Or a portover to FSX? If models are too shiny you can do one of two things:
a. lighten the alpha maps and/or b. lighten the greys in the UV maps (standard colour part of the dds)
A lot of FSX planes were simply re-exported from the modelling software to make them FSX compliant, but the developers simply didn't change the reflection settings. FSX renders models shinier than FS9.
