Hi,
I am new to the scenery game so please bear with me!
I wanted to add some GW3 buildings to Bagabag in the Philippines. I have added a mesh already and when I checked out the airfiels it was raised compared to the local scenery. I therefore created a flatten switch which levelled everthing out nicely except the actual runway, which was suspended in the air. I went into AFCAD and entered the new altitude in the airport info and in the runway centre info. Now the airfield looks OK, the runway is on the ground however my plane still sits about 100 ft above the runway..... Help.

Weirdest thing - I put a copy of the AFCAD into the World/scenery folder and now everything is correct!!

Hmmm I have no idea why that would help. You seem to have spotted the common priblem of having the AFCAD Altitude different from the scenery.

I actually placed the AFCAD altitude very slightly higher than the terrain altitude to avoid bleedthrough of the ground textures. But as to the initial problem, it looks like the aircraft was sitting on an invisible runway at the same altitude as the default airport settings. I'm wondering if the jiggery pokery that I had to do to get AFCAD to pick up my GW3 install was responsible, i.e. not switching off the original default AFCAD. I think the world/scenery folder sits higher in the hierachy.....
Anyone else had problems like this?

scenery hierarchies are a pain and to me, not always logical.

Well it seems to work. Now I need to add some gates, some ramps, taxiways an NDB and above some buildings.......
Should keep me busy - I'm reasonably OK with AFCAD but SceneGenX is all new to me.
All the best kurt

Generally the AFCAD files go into the Addon Scenery/scenery Folder. I have found apparent duplicates in the past. It is worth loading the airfield location into AFCAD and seeing how many versions it thinks is there - you may find a rogue

I've done that scruffy - in order to get things to work OK I have to have the AFCAD in the Addon Scenery/Scenery folder and the world/scenery folder. In AFCAD only the original and the addon scenery/scenery versions show up. If I remove the one from addon scenery/scenery then the original default AFCAD places a runway a hundred feet above the ground (complete with concrete textures). If I remove the one from world/scenery then I have an invisible runway 100 ft above the new grass textured runway. Weird. I even tried checking out JABBGL in order to find out the default altitude but that was no help at all!! Just have to live with it I guess.

I have seen that done before with duplicate afcads when there is an altitude problem. I have no idea why it works

Having fun with SceneGenX now. It generates errors very nicely. And to think this could time I spent flying! Was really interested in it because it was XML based but can I make sense of it? No. Tutorials are not too hot and I'm getting somewhat frustrated!!! I think the Pub is calling! I've used FS Enhancer in the past - at least I could put scenery in situ with that. Trouble is its so limited in its range of buildings etc, so hungry on frames and not really transferable. Bum - I can't even get this thing to put in a single building and this after three hours. I know these programs are a bit tricky but this is , well, frustrating to say the least. Its probably my ignorance!

Hi Tom
Is Airport for Windows easier - does it actually get you up and running quick? I was really keen to try to do some GW3 scenery, nothing flash but just wanted to accomplish something, if you know what I mean. I liked the idea of XML as it is supposedly less frame rate intensive. Willing to try Airpoort for Windows if it can actually "do what it says on the tin".
I tried Sbuilder - could not even get that b****r to run!!!

Kurt
Airport for Windows looks pretty much the same as SceneGenX. At least as far as the interface goes. I never got on with either. You might try FSSC but that does not handle and XML coded items at all.
What is the problem with SBuilder - do you get an error on starting it that a file is missing?
If so then I can probably help.
Truth is that most scenery design tools have a steep learning curve and in the end you need to find something that you are compfortable with. I have tried just about all of them and ended up with SBuilder. I'm not an expert by any means but I have probably seen most of the things that can go worong at the start and have gotten thru them (with help from the likes of Luis Sa who wrote it, and Scott Gridley of Freeflow.com who uses it as well)

Hi scruffy
Sbuilder gave me an error on start, I think it was a dll or an ocx that was missing. I had moved the SCASM file across. Also I need to work out how to get from Sbuilder to FS9 - bglcomp in there somewhere I guess!
I used FSSC a couple of times in FS2002 but it seemed pretty restricted and a lot of the stuff that I did was very hungry on frames so I binned it.
I'll give Sbuilder another go - you know what it is like I was hoping to find something thaT WOULD WORK OUT OF THE BOX.
