Nice trophy room, and nice armour, Steve, agreed, there are so many cool scenic places in Skyrim. And, like you say, the lighting is awesome. I have been actually blinded, videowise, while in fights with casters.
That's cool you mentioned the forward rush thing as I had discovered it with Silendra. I also told my sons about it as they hadn't heard of it. it really throws the MOB off its feet for a second or two enough to get a superior position on them.
So, I started another toon, Faedra, a high Elf, I've been trying to focus my time on skills rather than fighting, quests, and adventuring. Like I said before, the MMOs play quite different than this game does, and I need to get into the swing of things. My limited time has a great effect on my outcome. want to develop my magika, enchanting, and voice skills at an early age. The fighting skills seem to fall into place while developing the other skills, just not as quickly as when adventuring.
I realize some quests need to be accomplished in regards to helping with acquiring the skills I have mentioned. For instance, you have to kill a Dragon and capture its soul before you can make any of the voice skills a part of you, and the quests allow you to acquire other voice skills in the meantime.
I think the best I have gotten in level is 12, but mostly in adventuring.

That's how I play the game John.....I worked on my Illusion and conjuration skills then worried about my weapon enhancements etc. That seems to work the best for me......but this game has so many facets on how it can be played. You can purchase a BUNCH of spells at the college as well as leveling up your player. I'm a believer of higher education. (smile) I re-did my "War Room" etc., by getting rid of all the current trophy shields and picked up the ones from the city's/holds in Skyrim. Had just enough spots. (smile) One very interesting note though. One evening while traveling around the Thelmor embassy, I got this wild idea to sneak in and kill as many of the Thelmor I could. (smile) While doing the one quest "Diplomatic Immunity," I found I developed a huge dislike for the Thelmor and their arrogant ways, thinking they are better than everyone else. Plus......I got the idea (maybe I'm wrong)....that they are the reason for some of the trouble in SkyRim. Anyway.....sneaking in, I quietly killed the guards, then went to the barracks and killed everyone in their sleep. (smile) Over the course of the next several evenings, if I happened up by the embassy, I'd do it all again. (smile) I couldn't get into the embassy itself....(you need a key).....but the guards were fair game and besides.....I liked stealing their cool armor. (glass stuff....looks really good.) Several nights of playing went by and I found myself on the Southwest side of SkyRim when I was suddenly attacked without ANY warning by 3 Thelmor wielding some pretty powerful attacks. Fortunately, I was a little bit tougher. (smile) On one of the Judiciaries I found the following note: Got a good laugh out of the deal and the note is now framed and hanging in my Virtual hideout. Amazing detail to the game!!! There's a few screen shots I'd love to post.....but I'd rather you find these beautiful shots on your own. I'm still blown away at the beauty of some of these places!! What I have noticed however, as you go deeper into the game I found the spoken choices get harder; i.e., more options and opened ended play, and I'm really excited about starting from scratch and seeing what different choices will make with the game play. Maybe everything will come out the same in the end....but it's my belief that the different choices will give you different allies and enemies no doubt and I'm wondering how that will change the challenge to the game. Cheers,

That's how I play the game John.....I worked on my Illusion and conjuration skills then worried about my weapon enhancements etc. That seems to work the best for me......but this game has so many facets on how it can be played. Ok, I think I am getting a good grasp on how this all works, but the decisions are really endless. If you are the adventurous sort, like us, then you need to concentrate on your weapons, enhancement techniques, and their creation. This would include Perks from your level ups and spending that cash you have from raiding tombs and hideouts. Train when it is affordable. I have been playing Faedra for about six and a half hours, and have accomplished level 7, so doing much better at level increases. And very few actual quests except for the major epic style quests. I am enjoying this toon's development over my past two toons. I am not so certain I wanted to get involved in the Werewolf thing. The actual control of your beast is a bit out of your hands once you become the beast. Like you are stuck with it for a day, and when doing so, you can't enter any friendly towns. So, I am shying away from that this time through. I attempted the Companions' quest to prove my honor, and found I was much better than Farkas, and he was actually more of a burden to me than a help. He constantly was stepping in front of me while I was attacking the Undead. He kept saying, "I'm on your side" and "Hey!!", I kept saying, "Get out of my freakin way, Pal". I actually rammed him a few times to get him away from my kill, geez. I was killing two to three Undead to Farkas' one, which is great as you get the XP instead of your partner. I have also stumbled into some higher level hideouts and did very well with them. The thing with tombs and hideouts is you need to focus on killing and clearing the location, then go back later and raid the booty. The Cairn for the Companions' quest is still sitting there waiting to be booty raided by Lydia and myself. All in all, I am still excited about how this game offers multiple opportunities to change you direction in regards to game play. My youngest son has a toon at 76 now, but he says it is getting really hard to accomplish new levels. He never did explain his thoughts why this is happening, but as in most RPGs, the higher the level, the tougher it gets. I still have to deal with High Hrothgar and the Ice Troll there soon. but I already have three voices equipped. Hopefully I will get some better flame abilities soon to fend of this Ice Troll. The challenge of the game play is what this game is all about.

I guess in essence, I've "Kind of" finished the game? I actually did the Dragonslayer quest and killed old Alduin a couple evenings ago, however, I'm still playing as there is a BUNCH of side quests and even some of the major quests left to do. The companion quest isn't that bad.....and the werewolf thing isn't that bad, as you're only a werewolf when you want to be I think......and it only lasts a few minutes....maybe 5 or less. I turned into a werewolf only once just to see how it was. Man.....can you cover a LOT of ground as a werewolf though. Much faster than any horse!! Anyway.....on the last quest of that series, I took the option to cure myself. My guy "Eujo" is only at level 66 right now, but very close to leveling up again. However, I've worked hard on developing my skills as much as possible. Conjuration 100, Illusion 100, Destruction 97, Restoration 87, Sneak 94, Archery 97, etc. Lockpicking is still around 23....I hate those darn locks...and my speech isn't very high either as compared to others. My one handed weapons is 92 (I think) where as my two handed is in the 80's I believe. I scored the Ebony (Posioned Armor) on one of the quests which bumps up whatever sneak you have I think. I know I usually can't be spotted very well, unless my companion gives me a way or I walk right in to someone. I just started the Thieves Guild guest last evening. I had a hard time bring myself to doing that one. (smile).....but it actually is starting to be very challenging.......AND........it had a very strange an unusual twist to the plot line that I didn't EVEN see coming. So much so, my 1 hour session I was going to stick with turned into a 2.5 hour session last evening. (smile) Amazing how that happens!! I'll keep you posted if anything new pops up.....but I'm still really loving this game. It's never a dull moment, and I'm constantly being surprised!!! Cheers,

Wow Steve, you have much more time to play this game than I do. I think my new toon is only at level 9 now. Ho Hum, well, it don't matter, I find the game very intriguing.

When you're kind of retired and not much else to do....yes, I play this game A LOT!!!! (smile) Even so...... I'm only a fraction of exploring this wonderful place. I was comparing notes this morning with another friend playing the game. It's funny how we're both "kind of" following along the same lines, both getting to the same place.....but in a much different fashion with different reactions etc., from the story line. The creators of this game have taken just about every possible scenario into consideration. Hang in there....we all get to where we're going sooner or later. (smile) Cheers,

Hi John......Had a GREAT evening of play last night and finished up the "Dark Brotherhood" quest. That quest was much different....one that I didn't enjoy as much as others, however, it provided me the means to get the required items I needed to finish up another quest to get the "Oghma Infinium" Tome that I needed.
With that (Oghma Ininium) I was able to level up very quickly and now have all my skills at 100 with the exception of blocking which for an odd reason is only at 96.
I'm looking forward to playing again soon....perhaps tonight? (smile) I have a ton of quests still needed to be done, both on the misc. side and main story line so intend on finishing those up before starting again.
This game is so indept that I'll probably be working on these remaining quest until mid summer at least. (smile)
Cheers,

Ok, my first attempt at creating an in-game video. I converted the AVI file to a WMV to take the load off the server. It still came out pretty good I think. I couldn't figure out how to imbed the YouTube in the text for this post, and the YouTube tags didn't seem to do anything. Click the image to play video. This gives those who may follow this thread a bit of an idea of what the gameplay is like. Faedra is level 14 here, and her Housecarl Lydia helps her in the battle. Yes, I did a few things wrong, but between the two of us we did well.

Hey........ Faedra 1......Dragon 0.......looks like you did it just right. (smile) I haven't played for a couple days, but am anxious to get back into it again. Just too much "real world" stuff right now......maybe I'll be caught up by this weekend. (smile)

Sorry I haven't been adding to this thread lately. With Psych Class and the new Flight program out I just haven't had time to play Skyrim. The last I remember, I was level 17 and getting my arse kicked all over the place by dragons, living on the edge of health.

Now 19, but starting to have some problems staying on top my game. I am moving through both the Dragon saga, and the Companions saga at the same time, and maybe that is where my problem lies, doing too much at a time. I find some quests are just a bit out of sync with what one wants to do. So, I am back to the basics of trying to level up enough to be able to handle some of the action. I am still using a greatsword from 5 or 6 levels below.

Haven't been in here a while....too many real life things I guess. (smile)
I finally started a new game, however, I'm playing it much differently this time. Amazing to me.....while I THOUGHT I had an idea how I wanted to proceed......this time around is "familiar" but yet very......VERY different.
I'm playing a Wood Elf this time through as I do enjoy the bow. (smile) I'm up to level 22 right now so I'm still having to play very carefully. I decided if I die....I'll start again. (smile) I did grab my favorite "follower" Vannesa (sp?) as I think she's the very best. Never really cared much for Lydia.....I'll leave her home to tend to the house duties.
The Companion Quest was a good one..... although I haven't started that one yet. Want to level up a tad. I've been just exploring some and believe it or not.....I've found a ton of places I didn't see the first time through. That has been really hard for me to believe....but true. Right now I've been clearing out caves and taking everything there I can get my hands on just to sell off for cash.
Cheers,

I know this is an old thread, but The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim is a family game for us, so I wanted to do an update. My youngest Son is an avid player, totally dedicated, big book, level 70+++, latest Xbox DLCs, the works. The oldest is not as dedicated, but loves the game, plays on Xbox, and has two DLCs. Myself, I have the game downloaded from Steam with no updates except the road map improvement, which seems to be corrected in a later update.
I haven't played since February, 2013, and the oldest hasn't played for 6 months from what he says, 2011 was when we started to play as a family, but crap happens. I started a new toon to get the feel of the game again after some months off from playing, and the oldest started back up playing a level 37 toon. Last night he said he was having some trouble with the game locking up. I suggested saving the toon data and uninstall/reinstall on his Xbox 360. He looked at me like I was nuts (an argueable point). He then said, "It isn't worth the hassle Dad, I'll start over." So, the two of us are back at the beginnings.
The question I asked my Sons was, "Do I really need any mods or workshop DLC to make the game play well?" I was proud of my youngest's answer as he was using his head. He said,"The game plays well on its own, you don't need to make changes to have a great time playing it. I only download the expansions and some content to improve the aesthetics, but mostly to move into unknown content that is officially created." He use to be the one that jumped at every change made by Bethesda and other content creators. I guess he figured out that some things just don't need changed as they hit the game hard. I find it rather enjoyable as is, and my oldest and I have actually missed the gameplay.
So, we are back in the game, but not so hardcore that we will level up quickly. There is a lot to see and do in this game of Skyrim and myself and my oldest expect to enjoy most of it.

Wow!!, I actually have some of my old toons still on my HDD from back in 2011 when I was playing regularly. My highest level was 19 but not sure these toons were handled properly for level to accomplish some quests. This game can really get quite addicting.
