Aw fudge, my PC's video (integrated) can't handle Rail Simulator...it crashes. A quick question for those running the game. Do the trains have VC cabs or are they 2D views like the previous version of Train Simulator? Thanks. Brian

Brian..... I too had a problem with Rail Sim Demo crashing ....(more like locking up) after several minutes. I re-downloaded from the same URL that kbr posted above and now everything now runs fine. I think the first time I just got a bad download.
To answer your question on the cabs. I guess you'd call it VC. You hold the right mouse button down and can look around the cab with ease.

Thanks for the reply, Steve. My video is definitely the cause of my problems. If anyone is curious to see if Rail Simulator will run on their PC just go to this site. ww1.electronicarts.co.uk/ViewPopup.aspx?id=263Your question will be answered. ;D Brian

WOW! the iron rails...not since my Lionel, and American Flyer days have I felt the love of these Steam Monsters again..It was neck and neck with my love of planes for a while. But in the 50s,those misguided beaurcrats ,tore up the tracks.A treasure gone for ever.Diesel become king, Highways was the way to go,and the Smokeing, snorting, hissing ,clanging ,"Living" monsters were gone in the US.What remained was too antipestic..This is so tempting to come aboard on.Yet the prospect of long trips, asleep, the luxury of the dining car,and the grass root scenery whizzing by,the signal light's in the black void, the crossing gates, the platforms filled with freight, the passenger stations, looking like castles, the singing telegraph poles, back yards, the prairies, the Rockey's,the rivers, the tunnels, the high bridges, and the cows pausing you watch you go buy,may not be enough!Grease, oil, coal, sand, gravel ,water ,steam,rail,spike,ties,Clickety-Clack,whistles,bells,is romantic, and from perspective ,appealing.I must admit ,with my little ones,I watch that animated Lil blue train. The scenery of which ,has no equal."ALL ABOARD TICKETS PLEASE"" is the call now,its sooo tempting.Great site, thanx for the memories!Thanx for the great pics.......Vin...

I think you pretty much summed up why all of us hang around The Old Hanger. It was pretty much this type of memories of "simpler" times that brought me to Bill Lyons and Tom's first Old Hanger site many (well... not too many) years ago. I'm just very pleased to see I'm not the only hopeless romantic!

A stunning visual display, I wonder what the gameplay is going to be like? Say, the website said I could run it! Even Trainz will give me low framerates at times. I think I'll take that one with a grain of salt.

Wow Steve! Looks like Rail Simulator gives everything else a kick in the rear huh? I hope it is not a frame killer though.

...I hope it is not a frame killer though. It's not if the demo is to be believed. The demo runs better on my computer than trainz does. I'll probably wait until PI has their drivers out for it for the Raildriver before I pick it up, myself. I'm interested in seeing if the 3rd party developers will start developing for it.

Well, I'm anxiously awaiting the 16th for the release, but the demo runs really smooth. I have a several business trips over the next 4 weeks so I'm hoping that when this program arrives I can get a few hours with it. If not... at least maybe I can take a manual or something along to keep me busy. (smile)

Does anyone know when Rail Simulator is being released for North America US?

I think the US version just became available. According to Amazon.com, they have it in stock.
If you get it, I'd be interested in knowing how it turns out.

I'd say hold off for at least another few weeks Kevin. It doesn't run well on my P4 2.66 Ghz machine although I haven't turned the graphics options down yet. I think it has potential, but right at the moment it's a fractured and buggy program that got released way too soon. ...... Jeff Blimey! Shades of MSTS v1. Kuju were pushed into releasing that before it was cleaned up and now it looks as if EA have pushed them into releasing this prematurely. Jeff, what North American routes and/or rolling stock are included? Regards, Bruce
