I don't have a Nintendo Wii, but that video almost make me wish I did. ;D No worries on the links.........there is a ton of stuff available for Densha de Go in a few different formats....Playstation 2, Wii, etcetera. Nothing for PC, I don't think. Bruce

The TEM2 was a Soviet copy of the ALCo RSD1; which was exported to the Soviet Union under the Lend/Lease of World War II. The base design pretty much was a "world locomotive"; RSD1s were also exported to Iran and Europe. More at alcoworld.railfan.net

Ouch...you must be running a Cray Steve, RS looks like a slideshow from one of those old carousel projectors on my setup!! ;D
Just a rumour Bruce, but the upcoming patch is supposed to add the other EU routes to the US version and the Cajon Pass to the EU version. Don't know if there'll be any new routes.

I wonder if we can buy the US version Down Here. If not, I reckon I'll have to get it via eBay. I ordered my copy through Amazon.com which they claim to be international.... and I notice that Australia is listed as a "Payment Country" what ever that means...(smile) however, I don't know about shipping charges etc. For years I've tried to find a way of getting VB up here in the states but to no luck. Well.... I did find a place one time however, shipping was $75.00 U.S. per case so decided against that. Probably a good thing I can't obtain it here anyway. Cheers,

One of the things I do enjoy about Trainz 2004 is the animation effects while doing the route: i.e.; you pull in with an empty wagon and leave with it full. It appears that RS is modeled after that idea; Here I am leaving for the days run and filling up with coal and water before departure. I noticed on the water that I must have done something incorrect as I didn't actually see anything come out..... but the sounds were sure there and my tender filled with water. I'll have to check more out on that later. Got to get moving on this shipment of goods. (smile) Cheers,

Lovely screen-shots, Steve. Very atmospheric. I've made enquiries about the retail of RS here in Oz and it appears that we will be receiving the US version. I think it's available now but I'm holding off until I read more about it on the Train Sim forum. One negative comment seems to appear often and that is the weak sounds, everyone criticising them. It took a while for third-parties to make improvements to the MSTS sounds and (IMHO) nobody has equalled - or at least surpassed - Maple Leaf Tracks' audio artistry. So I hope the same happens with RS. I can't help you with the VB problem, I'm afraid. Apparently it is not an exported product in the normal sense (like Fosters) but I have my contacts working on it. Cheers! Bruce

Nice pictures, I have to admit that the sim is very pretty.
A while back I heard talk that Rail Sim was supposed to have built in Raildriver support. I was wondering if there was anything in the manual about this?

A while back I heard talk that Rail Sim was supposed to have built in Raildriver support. I was wondering if there was anything in the manual about this? Kevin.... I'm in San Diego this week (arrived last evening) so I don't have my manual with me at present..... I will be back home Friday and will most definetly take a look and see what I can find out in reference to Rail Driver support. I too am curious since you gotten yours. I have it on my 2008 Christmas list (smile) but I may have to talk Santa into coming a wee bit early this year. Maybe I can bribe her or something. (smile) Cheers,

Apparently it is not an exported product in the normal sense (like Fosters) but I have my contacts working on it. Glad you enjoyed the screen-shots Bruce. I haven't ventured out to any other forums recently as the "experts" there usually only make my blood pressure rise. (smile) However, I can see where someone that is use to Maple Leaf or even 3DTrains might try to compare sound sets and not be happy with RS. I actually think the sound for RS is not bad for an "out of the box" new sim..... it's is far better than MSTS had with their original release.... keeping in mind I have a tin ear and have never once sat foot inside the cab of a train. (at least not while it was running) I can honestly say I am very well pleased with what has been done thus far and the sounds more than met my expectations of what I "Think" a train should sound like both inside and outside the cab. The only sound I'm not real fond of is the European train whistles..... however, never actually hearing one I cannot comment as to their accurate nature. My honest feeling is..... RS appears to have spent a great deal of time getting the graphics quality that what it is.... surely they would have done their research to ensure the sounds were adequately represented. I suppose this could be somewhat like an article I once read comparing the old vinyl LP records to Cd's. The article claimed that the old vinyl LP's produced the most realistic accuracy to the actual symphonic orchestra..... however, kids preferred the digital Cd's and complained the LP sound lacked depth (or something to that effect.) If the sound system never gets updated.... it will not phase me in the least with the product... but I too hope Maple Leaf etc. will put their spin on the product to make it even better. In regards to the VB....... I was quite surprised Oz doesn't export it as it's pretty much like comparing Bud here in the States. I will say that when I was in Sydney back in 97 I had a gent tell me.... "Ah mate.... that's why we make Fosters for you Yanks so we can keep the good stuff for us." (smile) I'm beginning to think perhaps he was correct. I personally think it must just be a secret agreement between beer makers from Oz and the U.S. The U.S. makers realize that if VB ever hit the States, they would all be out looking for a new job somewhere. (smile) Cheers!

I posted the question over at the Rail Simulator forum and here is their response. "It's not supported now, but when the patch arrives in 2 weeks(ish) Raildriver will be included." Cheers!

Thanks, Steve. That's good to know. I'll be waiting for the patch then before buying Rail Sim, as once you start using the Raildriver, it's kind of hard to go back to the keyboard.

Steve, Thanks for your comments.....all most valuable. RS is supposed to be released here on 30th. January and is the North American version, as I guessed. I'll certainly buy it ..... no doubt about that, and if the patch does what everyone says it will then it should arrive at about the same time.
I was looking at the specs today and must say the the Auran guys, who dreamed up and then developed Trainz, must be in two minds.
Imitation may well be the sincerest form of flattery but Greg Lane (who was/is the guy behind the Trainz concept) must be wishing he could sue the pants off Kuju! They've just about adopted the Route editor format as used in Trainz (Surveyor) without change and even their "Scenario" format appears to be a direct copy of the Trainz idea.
Anyway, as one who had an interest in route-creation for Trainz, i reckon I may be tinkering with same in RS.
Of course, there is MSTS-X (whatever they are calling it!) to come yet.......I wonder what that will hold for us.
Oh, and as for the VB being kept for Aussies.........there are many wonderful Australian-brewed beers that leave the mainstream brewers (Carlton United etc.) for dead. Until you've tasted the likes of Red Back, Beez Neez, BeeSting, Blue Tongue, Crackenback and several more....all "boutique" brewers......you haven't tasted beer! ;D
Bruce.

I'm going to have to come to Australia!!!! (smile) I've made note of the above beers and will be searching to see if I can find any. I have my doubts.... but with names such as "BeeSting" it begs to be tried. As always.... Many Thanks! Australia has been on my mind of late.... maybe because I'm currently in San Diego which I find very closely the same feeling for me as Sydney. (Same temp's etc.) My hotel room over looks San Diego Bay where the Navy Yard is located and were we would board the ships for our great 6 month adventures. Ahh... the days!!! So.... rest assured my dear friend, I will have a wonderful steak this evening and will raise a toast to you and all the wonderful folks down under!! (I'll have to have one of the fine Australian wines... I believe I saw a Turners Crossing Shiraz on the wine list last evening.) How I wish I could once again stroll in the beautiful gardens by the Sydney Opera House!! Someday soon..... someday soon! As far as the RS similarity to Trainz, you are so correct!!! I read in the RS forum yesterday the entire RS team was part of Auran so that explained much. I too wonder how they managed from being taken to the courts....but maybe there was some type of agreement worked out. I haven't spent much time in the RS editor, however, I briefly looked at it's functions. It seemed more complicated than Trainz editor, however, I did see tutorial videos available. I may give it a whirl some day..... when or IF I get tired of the hauling cargo/passengers.

Recieved my copy of RS yesterday. Not much time to play with it yet, but looks good. My only complaint is the need to have the dvd in when you are running it.
