Hope someone has an idea on this one...... Perhaps Chris???
Picked up the A2A P-47 last evening and it has a super paintkit, however, the texture sheet (only one) is HUGH and I can't seem to find a way of installing the paint skin as I run out of memory.
The kit is done in Adobe, which I've tried to use but I get a message telling me it can't export that many channels. (5)
Paint Shop Pro 8 doesn't have enough memory for the kit and I'm not sure if there is another "trick" that one of the artist might know.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Cheers,

Cbris is our "FSX" artist...I'm sure he will have an idea soon. ;D I figured either you or Chris would. I'm sure it's something easy.... I just haven't had that much experience with Adobe.... I've always used PSP8. Cheers!!

Isn't there a switch in PS that allows you to increase the size of allowed layers, and the total file itself in setup preferences.
Yah, I agree, Chris would be the Guru to seek in this instance. I guess we wait until he arrives in the Paint Shop ..... *grabs an ice tea and finds a box to sit on until then* I am curious about this myself.
Do you know that even though you are taking a college course in graphic design you still have to take a separate course in Photo Shop to learn it, how brutal.

I was actually thinking of something a little stronger.......(smile) Yep.... it's a constant learning experience with Photo Shop & FSX. I've messed around with it this morning and actually have now found a somewhat convoluted way of getting from the paint kit to the FSX folder..... but everything comes out like it's not picking up the alpha channels or the specular sheet. At least I'm making some head way. Cheers,

Speaking of Adobe Photoshop CS4, I bought the Suite, where can a guy find some GOOD free tutorials for getting started. I have been to Lynda.com, but the price of $25/month is a bit out of my budget since I bought CS4. I have been cramming there with a 30 days trial I got with my new CS4, but it will run out soon, and they cater to the photo side of the tool. I need some training with the different tools available in relationship to image creation and modification, not photo manipulation. I have been working in Paint Shop Pro 7.0 for years now, and it still does the job, but from what I am seeing with CS4, it is much more robust.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Howdy Fellas, It's been a long year so far.... video card dying..... trying to upgrade the old box to something better, etc., etc., etc., however, the box is running great now...... I installed and running Windows 7 (Beta) which is WONDERFUL in FSX.... I'm never going back to XP again!!! And.... I finally figured out painting in FSX along with a workable solution for the larger textures. I'm sure it's a long way around the problem, however, I found something that works. Anyway..... I just about have everything installed back on my FSX machine and did up my first paint of the A2A Simulations P-47... wonderful bird but keeps you busy. Appropriately enough.... with all the problems I've had between FSX.... XP..... Adobe Paint shop etc., I've named my first paint....... "Nothin But Trouble." (smile) Here she is.... loaded out with 150 gal. tanks (x3) headed from Coffs Harbor in Bruce's territory.... for Fiji for some warm relaxing weather! Cheers,

Looking sharp! good to know you're enjoying W7 and Fsx; it confirms the voices I'm hearing around about the upcoming OS.
Since FSx is an unknown territory, any tip you'll find is always welcome here; do not doubt to share your progress with us.

Thanks Partner... I appreciate all the help I can get.
I've never really used Adobe or Corel that much, however, there were always a couple of features on each that worked better than others.
I've used PSP 8 for a number of years and feel quite comfortable with that for most paints..... but it doesn't seem to handle the large texture sheets. (P-47 paint-kit is 4096x4096...HUGE!) I love the detail of the `47 texture sheet.... but don't know how you'd ever share any paints with anyone other than uploading to a server, which I no longer do. Each .dds file.... even after flattening is 16k so I couldn't e-mail separate files if I wanted to.
Anyway.... don't want to get side tracked.... but I'm still learning. For whatever reason, I'm still trying to find a color replacing tool and trying to figure out how to draw a straight line. (smile)
If I could only have all the stuff you and CBris (Chris) have Forgotten about painting..... I'd be a very happy camper! (smile)
Cheers,

Steve, I am sorry about missing this - but not too much because I have finally got a job again and I am in the middle of packing and moving house - back up to Hamburg. Money... Real money again! Whee!
Now... about Photoshop - sorry, no can help. I am a Corel user. Some of my textures though have passed the Gigabyte level - yes! GB with all the layers. I am experimenting with HD texture artwork - it's a (not so big) secret. The guys at AussieX (http://aussiex.org/forum/index.php) have been playing with a few of my ideas and given me some back - like how to get 4096 textures to work (16MB for a single sheet!) Useful only really for default planes and single-sheeters...
Colour replacement? Theres a "remove white" tool around for PSD somewhere and with it comes a colour remover too. Don't ask where, sorry. It's on a Photoshop plugins site - Google photoshop plugins and be amazed.
Ever onward...
