I've been taking the screenshots in the morning, when the sun is in the east, shining on the west side of the field, where most of the scenery objects are. The crowd only shows up in the afternoon on airshow days.
Well, Joe says ORA only looks right in the summer, but I think it looks pretty fine all year round, even if it doesn't look "right" in the other seasons. If you look inside the ORA texture folder you'll see that there are lots of ground textures based on satellite imagery, and you can tell by the file names that they're all summer textures. I don't notice the difference in the spring or fall or much of the winter. I suspect that those ground textures might keep ORA snow-free even in "hard winter," but I can't check that out because I don't know the dates of FS9's "hard winter."
As for the density of trees, there are two ways to crank it up, since there are two kinds of trees. The ones on the field are scenery objects that Joe planted - yes, ORA is detailed down to the individual trees, each in the correct size and species! And there are autogen trees around the field.
Turning up autogen will maximize the autogen trees, and I believe that using Gerrish Gray's trees will increase the autogen density further. Turning up scenery to maximum density will show all of Joe's custom trees.
Those wild autumn colors come from Shiguru Tanaka's autumn tree textures. They were released for FS2002 but they work fine in FS9. They're the only tree textures I've found that approach the wild, screaming psychedelic colors of New York / New England in the autumn. They're probably a bit gaudy for the rest of the world, but they're just about right for the northeastern US and southeastern Canada.
Autumn has always been my favorite season, and it's pretty much always October in my FS world. I especially like to fly at ORA in the autumn because the two times I've been to the real ORA were both during October, so I always remember it with those fabulous colors.

Well, I did the experiment with the ground textures.
As you can see, a large area around ORA is covered by ground textures made from satellite imagery. In the summer shot you can see how they don't quite match up with the stock Golden Wings ground textures.
In the autumn the contrtast is greater, and as I suspected, in the winter there's no snow.
Alas, if the ORA ground textures are removed, the stock ground textures don't show in their place, and all that's visible is - nothing at all.

Thanks I got them today, so now I just need to install them. Mick, Nice comparison shots on the scenery too! I also did not realize that the people would not show up when the airport is "closed". Really great stuff! Jim

Mick, on the first page of this thread there is a shot of what appears to be a Curtiss D on the taxiway. A Google search didn't turn up anything. Is this AI only or a flyable aircraft? If flyable, where can I find it? In a slightly embarassing aside, I have to admit I have liked that aircraft ever since I saw it in "Those Magnificent Men and Their Flying Machines" longer ago than I like to think about.

The "Curtiss Model D" is really Dennis Simanaitis' Curtiss 1909 Reims Racer. It's available at Biplane Flyer and FlightSim, and probably at AvSim as well.
I painted it yellow for Old Rhinebeck, to match their 1911 Model D.
Dennis also released a "Curtiss Golden Flyer" for FS2002 and I believe the "Reims Racer" is an FS9 update of the same model. And I think the Golden Flyer was another name for the Model D.
I'm not sure if the Reims Racer, Golden Flyer and Model D were all exactly alike, but if not, then they differed only in detail. They look the same to me!
Yup, I remember that movie, and I'm old enough to recall seeing it in a theater on its first run. Great flick! And Cole Palen, founder of ORA, served as a technical advisor for the film.

I got the AI SPAD from Stuart this evening and I just finished the final packaging.
It's uploading to FlightSim as I type this, so it should be available there tomorrow. ;D
If I have time before I go to bed I'll also upload it to the Outhouse; otherwise I'll load it there tomorrow. It's about 40 megabytes, so it's taking awhile to go up the pipe.
I split it into three parts for the bandwidth challanged.
What a relief it is to finally get this thing released!!! I hope you think it was worth the wait!

I'll be off to download as soon as I get home. Following this thread has made me aware of what a huge effort this is.
Many many thanks for the hard work.

Once you've logged on try F5 and then enter until you get access. I always make sure I log off too!! That way others will have a chance. I wonder how many actually extend this courtesy to their fellow browsers?
